New York’s foreign-born Hispanic population is a large, diverse, and vital part of the state’s social, economic, and cultural fabric. Yet the experiences of Hispanic immigrants are far from uniform. Differences in country of origin, age, education, English-language proficiency, employment, income, family structure, and other characteristics shape how individuals and communities experience life in New York and the opportunities and challenges they encounter.
This profile brings together key demographic and socioeconomic data to provide a clearer picture of foreign-born Hispanic New Yorkers and the communities they represent. By examining these characteristics, the Institute on Immigrant Integration Research & Policy seeks to help policymakers, researchers, service providers, community organizations, and the public better understand this important population and support policies and programs that advance successful immigrant integration across New York State.
